ContactFor almost a decade I have explored Havana's culinary scene as a founder of Alamesa - Cuba's leading restaurant search and discovery service - I have witnessed its evolution and learn its secrets. All I know about how this business roll in Cuba, the techniques, the tricks, the places, and the people, I learned it by doing, in the most entrepreneurial way possible. I'd love to share with you my experiences and findings while interacting with restaurants and bars in Cuba. I also co-created Ruta de Tapas Habana (Havana's Tapas Route), the first and biggest tapas and drinks competition in Cuba. Its goal is to highlight the burgeoning restaurant scene of the city in all its creativity and presents it to locals. I'll introduce you to it.
I'm a rum enthusiast and a Cuban patriot, which inevitably leads to Cuban rum. It is my beverage of choice, my joyful companion and a crucial part of my true passion: Cuban culture. And I want to share that passion with you. We'll meet near our house in Santos Suárez, a non-touristy neighborhood in Havana. Our little appartment is humble, but it has a great view, lots of light and a great vibe. Around the dining room table or on the balcony, I will introduce you to Cuban rum. You'll learn about where it comes from and how it is made. We'll discuss different production techniques, varieties of rum, and regional influences. You will hear about flavors of vanilla, cinammon and American oak. All while sipping at least 4 different types of these beverages - from humble aguardiente, to premium rums - and trying some homemade snacks. Then, you will get to choose between a shot of your favorite blend, or a cocktail made with the rum you select. A few notes: In the spirit of Cuban culture, all conversation topics are welcome while having some rum together. Also, Santos Suárez is very central, but off the beaten path for tourists, so if you need help arranging transportation, let me know. If there's a date not offered on the calendar, ask for it and we'll see what can we do. If there's any way you think I can be helpful related to your stay in my city, just contact me.
We'll meet in the corner of Goicuría and Santa Catalina, in the Santos Suárez district, in front of a small local store called "Idea Fija".
Calle Goicuría esquina Santa Catalina
We will be in my apartment, located in a close by building.
Calle Goicuría #250 e/Milagros y Libertad
Bring your sunniest disposition and if possible - even though we offer tapas - grab some lunch before. About our home: Located in a 1950s building, our apartment features the original architecture of those years, refurbished to accomodate modernity. The main balcony has a delightful eastward view, with the Loma del Chaple taking a prominent role in the whole landscape. If you pay close enough attention though, you will be able to see the Havana bay and even the dome of the Capitol.
