Aromas from overseas, spices from fabulous corners: food has the nearly magical ability of bring things and places that are distant, to unveil the exotic and to turn us, by the works of a spoon, in discoverers, explorers, amazed visitors. Therefore, here you are, 7 places where to taste ethnic food:
The note: A must-have when it comes to Japanese cuisine. Recreated with the precision and knowledge of those who have left much of their life and memories in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Thumb up: Central but discreet, it has a very quiet atmosphere. A special place for intimate meetings or for small group getaways.
Thumb down: It is on the second floor so access has its limitations. Actually it is not so big, larger groups will have to be accommodated on the terrace.
Lo recomendado: Miso soup with shrimp and mushrooms. Sublime!
The note: Beyond the obvious, the concept of this restaurant plays with the references and confluences of the contemporary history of our country, but above all, it appeals to the local and global imaginary that emanates from it. An explosive combination spiced with strong flavors.
Thumb up: The spectacular view of Havana's Malecón complementing the experience.
Thumb down: The service has generated mixed reviews in the past.
Recommended: El estroganoff de res y un cóctel que al parecer sugieren como aperitivo, el Green Russian (Vodka, hierba buena, jugo de naranja, azúcar e hielo). The beef estroganoff and a cocktail they apparently suggest as an appetizer, the Green Russian (Vodka, spearmint, orange juice, sugar and ice).
The note: A reiterated element along this list is the inevitable fusion of Cuban and foreign cultures. This time, Old Havana serves as the setting for a meeting between the Indian culinary tradition, with the help of a native chef, and some of the best of Cuban music.
Thumb up: Music appeals, without doubt, to the most classic sounds of our tradition.
Thumb down: If you come from a culture like Cuban where particularly spicy food is not the norm, the first visit will be a shock or a discovery.
Recommended: The naan bread.
The note: First and only incursion (far as we know) into Korean cuisine registered around here. In Club Su the food and the scenary come together to build an incredible atmosphere.
Thumb up: For the service and the atmosphere, a combination that rarely leads to something other than the best experiences.
The bad: We strongly desencourage you from sitting outside at sunset. Apparently there are mosquitoes.
Recommended: The bulgogui. We know that we have recommended it several times at AlaMesa, that's how good it is.
The note: The house takes pride from offering an efficient fusion of Scandinavian cuisine with the ingredients and ways that are ours in Cuba. However, perhaps its biggest asset is the atmosphere.
Thumb up: Intelligent and stylish decoration, and the rescue of a neoclassical building in the very heart of Centro Habana.
Thumb down: The reports of instability in the availability of the dishes included in the menu are reiterated.
Recommended: It has the reputation of serving the best brownie in Havana. It might not be strictly a Swedish dish but ... who can resist a brownie?
The note: Away from the more touristy areas, it appeals to the almost instinctive sympathy of the Cubans towards the culture of Mexico, bringing much of the most authentic of that cuisine to the family table.
Thumb up: The family atmosphere and the permanent presence of the administration that guarantees quality of service.
Thumb down: It is dificult to access it from other parts of the city. For those in the area that is an extra benefit.
Recommended: The lobster tacos.
The note: The only space we know offering Lebanese food in the country. A new place, but it is already responsible for unforgettable flavors.
Thumb up: The novelty and at the same time the diversity of flavors that this delicious cuisine brings. The best thing about Beirut is its food.
Thumb down: It is very difficult to access if it rains because the area floods easily.
Recommended: The falafel, the shawarma and in particular (as always) we recommend the desserts.
